Cavewoman No More | 10,400 Followers!!! <3

Thank you so much for making me reach almost 10,400 followers on my Facebook Page, Makeup By Marj Sia. <3

It started out as a for-fun portfolio page only when I exported my albums from multiply so I never expected it would become THIS BIG. I think my page became dormant for a while with 3,000 followers only because my phone was a low-tech Nokia phone and I could only manage my page via web. I used to be such a cavewoman; I would only replace my phone whenever it would start to shut off by itself (lol) I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing because now I would buy a new one in less than a year. @__@

I guess the only 2 downsides of updating one’s gadgets is the cost and exporting old data/ familiarizing oneself with the new unit. (which is quite easy, actually) But I realized that I would have never expanded my network if it were not for my smartphone and 3G. So I’m very thankful to Globe for pulling me out of the stone age and welcoming me into the social media world.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a very thrift person so I was iffy about spending on mobile internet at first but after 6 months of being subscribed to Globe Unlisurf/ 3G, I realized that every cent is worth it. Let me share some awesome experiences:

I was having dinner with a friend at one of my favorite restaurants and as usual, instead of praying before meals, I would take and post an instagram photo of my food. When I asked for the bill, I received a P1,000 Gift Certificate for my next visit. Turns out, the owner was following my IG account and happened to be there! Back when I didn’t have 3G, I had to wait until I got home or had wifi just to post these. By that time, I would have already digested the food in my photos. :)) (Follow me @DearMarjSia)
I was in the middle of booking suppliers when I felt that I could still lessen my cost. So I tweeted “How much does silk screen printing usually cost?” then one of my helpful readers gave me a contact and they were half the price of the person I was talking to! That saved me and my client a lot of money because we were printing on thousands of merchandise!! :o
When I was using my half-dead Nokia phone, my Facebook Page followers got stuck with about 3,000 and it didn’t move for almost a year. But when I changed to my Blackberry, it reached 8,000 immediately and then it shoot up to 10,400 in a span of 6 months when I got my iPhone 4s. I swear, 3G changed my life.

Nowadays, it’s also a bit embarrassing to tell brand managers, PR agents, clients and suppliers that “I’ll reply to your e-mail when I get home because I don’t have wifi/3G”. I don’t mean to insult anyone without 3G, but in our competitive and fast-moving industry like fashion and cosmetics, we really have to make quick decisions and stay updated while we’re on-the-go. And hey, you can be productive while being stuck in traffic! :D We live in a world where social networking sites plays a key role to making one’s business grow so I’m raising the white (cavewoman) flag and hopping into the techie bandwagon too. I bet my geeky friends are happy now that I’m connected via Whatsapp, Viber & iMessage 24-7 thanks to Globe 3G. XD
