Black Beauty Brand Ambassador Shoot x Maybelline Makeup Tutorial

Last month, I made a bold decision to get rid of my ombre hair. I got so traumatized with the “kalawang” (rusty) aftermath of the bleached parts that I swore never to dye it and just chop it off when it gets longer. But thanks to Black Beauty hair care, they convinced me to dye it and help me maintain the softness and protect it from being damaged further. The photo below is one of my last smiles with my rebel ombre hair.

I’m really thankful they chose me to become their brand ambassador. It’s such an honor especially since my parents recently switched to the brand. (without telling me! hmph) :)) They’re really picky with shampoo because they’re afraid of hair fall and dandruff. I’ll introduce their wide range of shampoos in my next Black Beauty entry.

Pink Chiffon Kimono FLIGHTS OF FANCY | Necklace FROU FROU

Since the owner is an avid reader of my blog and loves my makeup tutorials, we decided to make 5 makeup video tutorials using one of my favorite makeup brands.. Maybelline!! But that’s not the best part, one lucky winner will be chosen for every video tutorial and she will WIN ALL THE MAKEUP USED IN THE VIDEO + Black beauty goodies!! See the blue bags on my table? They can be yours!! (Instructions at the end of this entry)

I’ve never posted a homemade video tutorial because I’m always so awkward on screen. I feel more comfortable posting step-by-step photo tutorials but I hope you enjoy the videos! :)

There was so much makeup everywhere during our filming day.. One of their staff managed to spot their hair cuticle coat in my travel kit. I SWEAR, I have one in all my makeup kits and sometimes in my purse too, when I have to fix my hair in the car.

There are 3 variants that I find hard to choose from on a daily basis because they all smell so good! :)) Will post a longer review of this soon.

My makeup tutorials will also have special guest bloggers like Vern Enciso (above) and the rest is a surprise. Maybe you’re seen their BTS blog entries around! ;)

Here’s a photo of myself looking serious because I’m about to have my hair dyed. Sir Jun of Indigo Salon in Temple Drive (near Corinthian Hills) used Black Beauty AUBURN hair dye on me. (In photo: lower left, purple box) I need to get my hands on one of these soon so I can dye my roots!

After dyeing my hair, they used Black Beauty Hot Oil to make my hair soft and smooth. I was afraid that I’d end up mortified with the results again like my last dye job but look at the results….

I absolutely love it!!! ♥_♥

My only concern is that it makes me look a bit erm, bitchy (unfriendly) haha! What do you think? XD

Thank you so much Black Beauty Philippines for the fun-filled shoot! I really enjoyed trying out all the products there and having them in my shower now. :))

About the Black Beauty x Maybelline contest, my first video is about Natural, everyday makeup. You can see the video HERE. (Pardon my awkwardness) :))

To join their contest, like Black Beauty Philippines Facebook Page for the mechanics. It’s actually very easy to join and win so send in your entries NOW!! :)

CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set | Tips & Tricks | My Top Makeup Picks

Whether you’re a professional makeup artist or just really into makeup, one can’t do away without a decent makeup brush set.

I’ve been practicing makeup since 2005. I started out with a 5-piece brush set but as my obsession & makeup career grew, I became more knowledgeable & picky with my makeup and tools. I currently have 3 brush sets; one for shoots, shoots with friends and one for personal use. I find it hard to carry my ‘personal brush set’ around because of the long handles and bulky leather organizer so I had to look for a more compact travel set. That’s when I came across CHARM’s Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set.

Obviously, I got lured to this set because of the pink & black motif & its fashionable leather case. But with long-term investments like brushes, I had to make sure that the quality is as nice as it looks.

Before buying a brush set, one must always consider the brush hair quality, material and hair fall. To check, just sweep it on the back of your hand. Make sure that it’s soft and isn’t harsh at all because rough brushes can damage your skin. In order to know if the brush hair is sturdy, lightly pinch it a few times to see if the hair comes off easily. CHARM Brushes are made from the softest mix of animal & synthetic hair so they passed this test with flying colors. (more on pink, of course!)

CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set comes with 14 brushes and a black leather brush organizer/ case. This set contains all the basic/ essential tools that is needed to achieve your desired look. I’ll share the function of each brush and my favorite product that corresponds to it.

Face brushes: (L-R) Concealer Brush, Foundation Brush, Angled Blush/ Contour Brush, Powder Brush, Stippling Brush.

STIPPLING BRUSH ~ This brush is a combination of nylon & synthetic brush hair to create an “airbrush finish” when you use it to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply loose powder or blush. Always have a separate stippling brush for powder & liquid products.

FOUNDATION BRUSH ~ This nylon brush is used to apply your favorite BB cream or liquid foundation.

A lot of people have overlooked the Dream On Foundation from Etude House because of the popularity of their BB Cream. This liquid foundation is not oily at all and has a hint of yellow-brown so it’s perfect for Chinese or tanned Pinay skin.

CONCEALER BRUSH ~ Use this brush to blend in your liquid or cream concealer on your eyebags and blemishes. For full-coverage, use MAC Studio Finish concealer. Don’t buy concealer that is too light for your skin because it will make hideous “white eyebags” appear in photos when the camera flash bounces from it. *eek*

POWDER BRUSH ~ I prefer using a brush over sponges when applying powder. In fact, I told my students to throw away their sponges because they tend to apply too much makeup with it. A lot of them were amazed at how they were able to achieve natural looking makeup by using powder brush & dry application only.

This brush can also be used as a BLUSH BRUSH if you intend on using the angled brush as a contour brush. To find the apples of your cheeks, make a big while applying your blush.

ANGLED BLUSH/ CONTOUR BRUSH ~ Since I have a round/square face, I always contour my jaw line to make my face appear slimmer. You can use this brush as a blush brush if you don’t plan on contouring your face. Insider tip: Catwalk Cosmetics will be releasing contour palettes soon! (photo above)

Now, let’s move on to eye brushes…

Eye Brushes: (L-R) Wet/Dry Eyeshadow Brush, Angled Eyeshadow Brush, Blending Brush, Pencil Point Brush, Flat Liner Brush, Bent Eyeliner Brush, Eyebrow Shading Brush, Brow Spoolie, Lip Brush.

I’m glad that this travel set comes with 4 different types of eyeshadow brushes because I love to layer and blend as many colors as I can on my eyelids. Eyeshadow brushes are very common but there’s one certain brush in the CHARM set that isn’t found in any of my old brush sets…

.. The BLENDING BRUSH! This brush is my favorite out of the 4 eyeshadow brushes because it has multiple functions. It can be used to highlight the brow bone by applying highlighter below the arc. It can also be used to apply a soft amount of eyeshadow on the crease. Now I always dab a small amount of my favorite neon pink eyeshadow from my Catwalk Runway Palette as my finishing touch. (photo above)

BENT EYELINER BRUSH ~ The most unique brush contained in this set. The thin and fine hair & bent brush makes it easier to apply cream-type eyeliner. My favorite eyeliner style would be the winged/ cat eye and I always use Maybelline Lasting Drama Liner in black.

FLAT LINER BRUSH ~ This can also be used to apply eyeliner but I use it to apply brown or black powders on my lower lash line to make my eyes appear bigger.

EYEBROW SHADING BRUSH ~ I’m very OC when it comes to eyebrows so I always have this brush with me so I can shape my eyebrows with Makeup Forever’s Brow corrector. A lot of makeup artists are in love with this product and it is almost always out of stock in their shop so you better have your name wait-listed if you want to get your hands on one.

BROW SPOOLIE ~ If you have unruly eyebrow hair, use the brow spoolie to brush it into place with brow gel. I sometimes use it to remove clumps from my eyelashes after applying my favorite mascara, Maybelline’s MAGNUM Volume express mascara.

LIP BRUSH ~ The last brush that I use in my makeup routine. It can be placed inside your daily makeup kit because the handle also serves as its cover. It is unhygienic to directly apply lipstick on your lips especially when you’re not the only one using it so always use a lip brush. I’m very addicted to Etude House lipsticks because they’re not drying and it tastes good. One day I might actually eat one. :)) The lipstick I’m using in this photo is LUCIDarling #7. (Hot Pink)

CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set is available at Beauty & Minerals online shop. I hope you were able to discover new products + tips & tricks from this review.

What’s your favorite makeup or tools featured here? ;)

P.S. This is not my real hair. I’m using light brown Bianca Catwalk Wig. :D

Catwalk Cosmetics Makeup Workshop: BATCH 2 Makeovers

2nd Batch of my Maybelline makeup workshop. As usual, my students didn’t have a hard time learning how to put on makeup thanks to the easy-to-use makeup and brushes provided by Maybelline & Suesh. Everyone was impressed by the strong pigments of Catwalk Cosmetics Runway palette and were convinced that bright colors CAN be used at anytime of the day. Normally I would give a short write-up for every student that won a prize, but I kind of forgot because of the amount of work that I’ve been juggling lately. ;__; So I would REALLY appreciate it if you’re a part of this class and leave a comment below if you won an award or prize. :} Thanks to Mylene Chung of The Living Room Studios for the wonderful makeover photos!

Be amazed by their transformation from bare to day to night makeup! :)

Jyle~ I won’t forget her for bagging the best overall photo and makeup! She took home Bizu GCs! :)

For those who weren’t able to join our first 3 batches, here’s a sneak peek to our classroom set-up. Thanks to MAYBELLINE NEW YORK for all the classroom makeup and SUESH for the brushes and mirrors.

Tools I used for demonstration. All the goodies at the back were given away as prizes. Thanks to Garnier, Nivea & Maybelline for being so generous!

Everyone had big smiles when they got their hands on the Catwalk gift bags. Each one of them got to take home Catwalk Cosmetics Runway Eyeshadow & Blush Palette and products/ Gift Certificates from our partners.

Every student got to take home Macaroon canisters too! Bizu Patisserie has the BEST macaroons in Manila. That’s not an opinion; it’s a fact. My workshop wouldn’t have been complete without these goodies because their macaroons are as colorful as my eyeshadow palettes. Sad that I forgot to take a photo of the yummy Spaghetti Pomodoro they provided that day. It as sooo good, Mylene and I finished it before we even had the chance to take a photo! Fail! :))

After my first 3 sessions, I was supposed to end the series of workshops but I kept getting requests to make more so if you haven’t heard of the good news, Catwalk Cosmetics Makeup Workshop will be sponsored by my favorite Korean brand, ETUDE HOUSE. :D

Basically, everything will be the same except for the giveaways and products used in the classroom. Makeup & skin care education will be provided by Etude House, a brush set will be included in the gift bag OR you can opt to get the Catwalk Cosmetics palette, goodies from other sponsors and a photoshoot by Mylene Chung.

*********

Since this is a Korean themed workshop, everyone will get the chance to try on The Mane Attraction Wigs during the shoot & the best dressed student with the best photo will win Freshlook contact lenses & the Etude House Princess Award. Whee! :D

For a more detailed info on the CW x EH workshop, check my previous Tumblr entry.

We will have a maximum of 10 students only so reserve a slot now by texting your FULL NAME and E-MAIL address to 0917-8929289.

I hope everyone from Batch 1-3 had fun!! Can’t wait for the Etude House workshop!! Aja Aja!! :D

Catwalk Cosmetics Makeup Workshop: BATCH 1 Makeovers

I’m so proud of my Batch 1 students!! They were very fun and easy to teach and all of them were able to apply the techniques perfectly using makeup from MAYBELLINE. Our photos prove that you don’t need to spend a lot to get good quality makeup because Maybelline can do the job. Everyone was also impressed at how bright the colors from Catwalk Cosmetics are with just one swipe! Thanks to Mylene Chung of The Living Room Studios for the wonderful makeover photos!

Brynn’s Day Makeup won her a gift pack from GARNIER for having the most natural look. Her transformation is AMAZING!

Bea was a very fast learner. She was able to follow all the instructions given to her without any follow-ups!

Pat wasn’t able to have a “before” shoot because she arrived late. Nevertheless, she won a foundation brush and bowl from SUESH COSMETIC TOOLKIT for being the best subject. (perfect photo on the first shot)

Melissa got to take home a gift pack from GARNIER too by giving the perfect answer to one of my makeup and skin care trivias.

I still owe Lei a gift because she researched what “the skin/part behind our palm” is called. I told the group I’d send out anyone that was able to find out because that part is always used but no one knows what it’s called. XD

Joyce bagged BIZU GCs from the “Colorful Macaroons” contest by having the most colorful and best Night look.. Just like their macaroons!

Rachel was shy and quiet but wasn’t afraid to ask questions so she got to address all her concerns and achieved well-blended smokey eyes!

Vanessa was also able to apply makeup naturally. She had a no-makeup day look while her night makeup accentuated her pretty Chinita features.

Lyssandra is the youngest among all my students. She looked like Kim Chiu after getting all dolled up! As you can see, I encouraged everyone to use bright colors for night look instead of the usual and *boring* smokey black colors. That’s why my tag line is “Everyday is a Runway”. ;)

For those who weren’t able to join our first 2 batches, here’s a sneak peek to our classroom set-up.

But that’s not all! ..Guess what we had for our snacks?!

I was surprised when I picked up the food from BIZU. I was expecting small finger food or cakes but they sent us beautifully packed Grilled Chicken with Sundried Tomato Pesto Cream in Focaccia with Potato Crisps. Mye and I were so full until dinner time. Haha!

Every student got to take home Macaroon canisters too! Bizu Patisserie has the BEST macaroons in Manila. That’s not an opinion; it’s a fact. My workshop wouldn’t have been complete without these goodies because their macaroons are as colorful as my eyeshadow palettes.

The makeup classes were supposed to be offered during summer only but due to popular demand from people tweeting and texting me to open another class next month, I’ll be holding one LAST workshop this July 2. Unlike the previous classes, I’ll be accepting 50% deposit (P2,250) to secure a slot instead of full payment and the rest can be paid on the day itself. I want to give way to those who are still studying or saving up for this workshop.

We will have a maximum of 10 students only so reserve a slot now by texting your FULL NAME and E-MAIL address to 0917-8929289.

I hope everyone from Batch 1 and 2 had fun!! Can’t wait for Batch 3! :)

Flirty & Fluttering

There are times when I’m too lazy to curl my lashes and fix it with mascara so I opt for the next best thing ~ False lashes! (aka Falsies)

*Eyeshadows: Catwalk Cosmetics Runway Palette: http://on.fb.me/l6PADp

Some people find it hard to use but it only takes a little patience and practice to master *the art of gluing on falsies* haha! Here’s a step by step procedure on how to properly place falsies on yourself:

  1. Measure the width of the falsies on your eyelids; not the lashes but the base. Make sure it doesn’t go beyond the length of your lash line. Cut out the excess part on both ends using a clean pair of scissors.
  2. Apply some glue on the falsies’ lash line SPARINGLY. Don’t put too much as it will clump up on your eyelids and become uncomfortable to wear.
  3. Allow to semi-dry for 20-30 seconds before attaching on your lids.
  4. Now, here’s the tricky part. Gently place it on top of your lash line. Make sure that you’re comfortable with its position before fixing it on.
  5. Using the other end of a small brush, (I usually use my lip liner brush since it’s the smallest) gently poke it into place. Keep eyes closed and let it settle for another 30 seconds then voila, pretty and flirty lashes!

To make our eyes look bigger, use 14.5mm contacts and dab some mascara on your lower lash line too. I’m using Geo Angel Contact lenses in brown and Maybelline’s Long Extreme Stiletto Mascara.

Out of all the falsies I’ve tried, this one is my favorite:

Etude House’s Vivid Long falsies. Not sure about the price here in Manila since I got it from Korea. But it should be about P100-P120 only. It already includes the glue plus you can re-use it as long as its form is still wearable.

Hope you found this how-to helpful.

Feel free to send in your makeup & beauty dilemmas! <3

Maybelline New York’s Stiletto Run Event

Last March 15, 2011, Maybelline held the first ever Stiletto Run here in the Philippines at Robinsons Place, Ermita. This event is to celebrate and launch their latest mascara, the LONG EXTREME STILETTO MASCARA.

My friend Krismae and I arrived extra-early at around 1:30pm to be greeted by these young and cute inters of Maybelline & L’Oreal. Before anything, they made me sign a waiver so that I could join the race. It kinda scared me a little because I knew there was a huge risk of getting injured when running in heels. But that didn’t stop me from entering the contest..

They showcased dresses from different designers from Robinsons’ Runway. The chosen dresses were perfect since they were red and black, just like the Stiletto mascara.

The MNY Philippines team at their cute photo booth ~ also dressed in red & black ensembles.

People arrived later than usual so we checked out the latest products at the Maybelline counter while enjoying cocktails, mini-sandwiches and dips from The Plaza catering.

Since I arrived with full hair and makeup on, Krismae decided to have her own makeover at the Maybelline makeup station.

Harold Santos, one of their chief makeup artists, did a fine job on her. Look at those long lashes! :)

Maricar Reyes, the face of Robinsons Department Store, arrived at around 3:30pm and the area immediately became overcrowded with fans.

She was wearing a pair of stilettos from JADA. (as shown in photo, lower right) They’re the sister company of Janylin and can be found at all Robinsons Department Stores.

Come 4pm, they asked all the participants to fall in line and prepare for the race. Look at my *game face* up there. Too bad I couldn’t even bare to stand up anymore after walking around for almost 3 hours so I had to skip the race.

Here’s a photo taken from my new blogger friend at, Charlene Tan, at the starting line. (yellowyum.blogspot.com) We just met there and we got along with so many things since we have the same taste in fashion, makeup and food. We spent almost the whole afternoon talking about which restaurants to visit. #ThisIsWhyImFat :))

I was kind of glad to have skipped the race because I saw three girls stumble on the floor and one even got minor scratches on her knees. I annotated the band-aid on her knees on the photo above. But I’m sure it was worth the experience and hey, they bagged the prize ~ A shopping spree at Robinsons Department Store & Maybelline products of your choice!

They also gave out other special awards. I got to bag one of them. Yey! <3

Award: Highest Heels (5 inches)

Award: Most Stunning Outfit

Award: Most Stylish Stilettos (I got these Suede Leopard stiletto pumps from H&M)

Had a shoe-photo op with the Highest Heels winner. Leopard pumps are definitely in!

Spent the rest of the afternoon just chatting with fellow blogger, Charlene and my friend Krismae.

Here’s what we got in our gift bag. Posting my review on their Long Extreme Stiletto mascara NEXT! ;)

Life’s a Beach ~ So get some sun-protection!

THE TRAVELING HEELS will be at Phuket, Thailand this holy week. I’m so excited to use all the sun protection products that I got last week. It’s been 12 years since I’ve actually stepped on a beach so I haven’t tried any of these products yet!

DAY 1-2: Nivea Sun (L-R) ~ Deep Tanning Oil Spray, SPF 50 Moisturizing Sunblock, Invisible Protection spray w/ SPF 30 & Moisturizing after-sun spray. I’ll need to correct some parts of my body w/ Tanning oil especially the chest area since it’s always hidden from the sun. I’m not going home without any tan lines!!

DAY 3-4: Beach Hut ~ Thank you so much for this cute Sun protection kit + underwater camera & frisbee. Wish I had the time to buy some film for the camera though. (L-R) Hypoallergenic Face Sunblock w/ SPF 65 & their latest MAX Protection SPF 100++. By the way, these came in a cool pizza box-type container. Super cute!

DAY 5-7: ETUDE HOUSE & MAYBELLINE ~ Bangkok tour and shopping. Since I’ll be walking around, I don’t want to use thick sunblock that might become sticky at the end of the day. Instead, I got myself Etude House’s SUN GUARD Aqua Drop sunscreen w/ SPF 33. It has a very light-weight feel since it’s water based so it’s perfect to use on a hot summer day at Bangkok. I also apply it everyday before putting any makeup on. And for my lips, I use Maybelline’s cherry lip gloss w/ SPF 16 to prevent it from chapping and t the same  time, giving it some color.

Will post full reviews of each and every product as soon as I come back home. Enjoy the short vacation! :)
