“MAKEUP Your Mind” (Magazine feature)
I was invited by ZEN Health Magazine to contribute a beauty article for their May - July 2012 issue. It was my first time to actually write for a publication so I was worried about how it would turn out. I was feeling inspired last summer so I think I did a pretty good job. Let me know what you think. :)
Enjoy! :>
“MAKEUP Your Mind”

Whether it’s an ordinary occasion or a special event, there’s always the dilemma of deciding which type of makeup to put on. Instead of bugging your friends or creating a Facebook poll, let your mood make the choice for you!
**LOOK #1 Clean and Casual**

Natural makeup will never go out of style. This look is very versatile- it can be worn during the day or night time. Stick with earth or rose tones for the eyes, cheeks and lips. Majolica Majorca’s blood On Lip & Cheek Tint is perfect for those who have a hard time finding a blush that matches their lipstick. Groomed brows are a must since you only have plain makeup on so apply some brow gloss to accentuate those pretty eyebrows.
Key Makeup/ makeup suggestions:
Lancome - Ombre Absolue Palette Sparkling Eye Colour Quad in A110
Lancome - L’Absolu Nu Lipstick in 106
Majolica Majorca - Blood On Lip & Cheek Tint
Makeup Forever - Brow Corrector #0
**LOOK #2 Colorful and Playful**
If you’re feeling playful, apply bright neon shades to match your giddy mood. Be bold, wild and free when choosing colors for this look. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your makeup because it’s a great way to discover a different side of yourself. Catwalk Cosmetics Runway Eyeshadow & Blush Palette has high-pigment colors that will surely get people to notice your makeup. Be scarce when applying blush especially when you already have bold colors on your eyes and lips. Want to make blending eyeshadows even more fun? Get a colorful or pretty-colored brush set like Charm’s 14-pc Pretty in Pink vegan Brush Set.
Key Makeup:

**LOOK #3 Smokey and Sultry**
It’s all in the eyes when you’re talking about the Smokey look. There are various ways and colors to create this effect but the most popular one would be the smokey black eye. For this look, you’re allowed to layer on tons of black eyeshadow topped with a fierce eyeliner and mascara. Tony Moly’s Backstage Self Smokey Eye comes with a cream liner, brush and 2 eyeshadow shades. It’s an all-in-one set to create the sexy smokey eye.
Key Makeup:
Majolica Majorca - Lash King Mascara
Royal Effem - Velvet Kohl Eyeshadow
Tony Moly - Backstage Self Smokey Eye (Gray Smoky)
MAC - Penultimate Eye Liner

Catwalk Cosmetics Makeup Workshop & Halloween Makeup demos

As promised, I’ll be holding one makeup workshop this month with a lower price to give way to those who are saving up for it. It’s also the perfect time for students to join since they will be on sembreak. :D Don’t worry about the age range of students, this workshop is open for all ages! I’ve had enrollees from ages 16 to 55 from my previous batches.

I came up with 2 packages:
PACKAGE A comes with a basic makeup brush set (P3,500) while PACKAGE B comes with a Catwalk Cosmetics wig Gift Certificate worth P1,200 and a makeover! (P3,800). A brush set will be provided for classroom use if you don’t have one. You can choose between having runway makeup or halloween makeup for your makeover (for package B only) so you can learn to apply it on yourself on October 31, which is a week after the workshop! Those who avail of package A can stay and watch too! :D

All makeup & materials will be provided by Etude House & Catwalk Cosmetics so no need to bring anything. ALL students get to take home certificates from Charm Makeup Brushes, Koi Swimwear & Yhansy Manila and a skin care set from Nivea Visage! :)
Venue is at a studio in Pasig; not too far from Tiendesitas. Address will be sent via e-mail after enrollment.
Space is limited so reserve a slot now by texting your full name & e-mail address to 0917-8929289. :)
CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set | Tips & Tricks | My Top Makeup Picks
Whether you’re a professional makeup artist or just really into makeup, one can’t do away without a decent makeup brush set.
I’ve been practicing makeup since 2005. I started out with a 5-piece brush set but as my obsession & makeup career grew, I became more knowledgeable & picky with my makeup and tools. I currently have 3 brush sets; one for shoots, shoots with friends and one for personal use. I find it hard to carry my ‘personal brush set’ around because of the long handles and bulky leather organizer so I had to look for a more compact travel set. That’s when I came across CHARM’s Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set.

Obviously, I got lured to this set because of the pink & black motif & its fashionable leather case. But with long-term investments like brushes, I had to make sure that the quality is as nice as it looks.
Before buying a brush set, one must always consider the brush hair quality, material and hair fall. To check, just sweep it on the back of your hand. Make sure that it’s soft and isn’t harsh at all because rough brushes can damage your skin. In order to know if the brush hair is sturdy, lightly pinch it a few times to see if the hair comes off easily. CHARM Brushes are made from the softest mix of animal & synthetic hair so they passed this test with flying colors. (more on pink, of course!)

CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set comes with 14 brushes and a black leather brush organizer/ case. This set contains all the basic/ essential tools that is needed to achieve your desired look. I’ll share the function of each brush and my favorite product that corresponds to it.
Face brushes: (L-R) Concealer Brush, Foundation Brush, Angled Blush/ Contour Brush, Powder Brush, Stippling Brush.

STIPPLING BRUSH ~ This brush is a combination of nylon & synthetic brush hair to create an “airbrush finish” when you use it to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used to apply loose powder or blush. Always have a separate stippling brush for powder & liquid products.

FOUNDATION BRUSH ~ This nylon brush is used to apply your favorite BB cream or liquid foundation.

A lot of people have overlooked the Dream On Foundation from Etude House because of the popularity of their BB Cream. This liquid foundation is not oily at all and has a hint of yellow-brown so it’s perfect for Chinese or tanned Pinay skin.

CONCEALER BRUSH ~ Use this brush to blend in your liquid or cream concealer on your eyebags and blemishes. For full-coverage, use MAC Studio Finish concealer. Don’t buy concealer that is too light for your skin because it will make hideous “white eyebags” appear in photos when the camera flash bounces from it. *eek*

POWDER BRUSH ~ I prefer using a brush over sponges when applying powder. In fact, I told my students to throw away their sponges because they tend to apply too much makeup with it. A lot of them were amazed at how they were able to achieve natural looking makeup by using powder brush & dry application only.
This brush can also be used as a BLUSH BRUSH if you intend on using the angled brush as a contour brush. To find the apples of your cheeks, make a big while applying your blush.

ANGLED BLUSH/ CONTOUR BRUSH ~ Since I have a round/square face, I always contour my jaw line to make my face appear slimmer. You can use this brush as a blush brush if you don’t plan on contouring your face. Insider tip: Catwalk Cosmetics will be releasing contour palettes soon! (photo above)
Now, let’s move on to eye brushes…

Eye Brushes: (L-R) Wet/Dry Eyeshadow Brush, Angled Eyeshadow Brush, Blending Brush, Pencil Point Brush, Flat Liner Brush, Bent Eyeliner Brush, Eyebrow Shading Brush, Brow Spoolie, Lip Brush.

I’m glad that this travel set comes with 4 different types of eyeshadow brushes because I love to layer and blend as many colors as I can on my eyelids. Eyeshadow brushes are very common but there’s one certain brush in the CHARM set that isn’t found in any of my old brush sets…

.. The BLENDING BRUSH! This brush is my favorite out of the 4 eyeshadow brushes because it has multiple functions. It can be used to highlight the brow bone by applying highlighter below the arc. It can also be used to apply a soft amount of eyeshadow on the crease. Now I always dab a small amount of my favorite neon pink eyeshadow from my Catwalk Runway Palette as my finishing touch. (photo above)

BENT EYELINER BRUSH ~ The most unique brush contained in this set. The thin and fine hair & bent brush makes it easier to apply cream-type eyeliner. My favorite eyeliner style would be the winged/ cat eye and I always use Maybelline Lasting Drama Liner in black.

FLAT LINER BRUSH ~ This can also be used to apply eyeliner but I use it to apply brown or black powders on my lower lash line to make my eyes appear bigger.

EYEBROW SHADING BRUSH ~ I’m very OC when it comes to eyebrows so I always have this brush with me so I can shape my eyebrows with Makeup Forever’s Brow corrector. A lot of makeup artists are in love with this product and it is almost always out of stock in their shop so you better have your name wait-listed if you want to get your hands on one.

BROW SPOOLIE ~ If you have unruly eyebrow hair, use the brow spoolie to brush it into place with brow gel. I sometimes use it to remove clumps from my eyelashes after applying my favorite mascara, Maybelline’s MAGNUM Volume express mascara.

LIP BRUSH ~ The last brush that I use in my makeup routine. It can be placed inside your daily makeup kit because the handle also serves as its cover. It is unhygienic to directly apply lipstick on your lips especially when you’re not the only one using it so always use a lip brush. I’m very addicted to Etude House lipsticks because they’re not drying and it tastes good. One day I might actually eat one. :)) The lipstick I’m using in this photo is LUCIDarling #7. (Hot Pink)

CHARM Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set is available at Beauty & Minerals online shop. I hope you were able to discover new products + tips & tricks from this review.

P.S. This is not my real hair. I’m using light brown Bianca Catwalk Wig. :D
